Sarah Loughlin creates woven objects from natural materials, using traditional basketry techniques to create contemporary forms. Primarily working with willow, she explores form, enclosure and protection. Her work responds to structures found in nature and often takes curved forms that draw inward, becoming increasingly enclosed. These forms create a sense of containment, reflecting a human need for shelter, security, comfort and retreat.
