COURSE OVERVIEW
During this 2 day workshop we will create a contemporary version of the Irish skib, which was traditionally used for straining and serving potatoes in! Working in a relaxed atmosphere, you will be given plenty of time to create your basket, focusing on a few key skills of willow weaving over the duration of the course. For those newer to basketry we advise making one small skib, and for those with more experience you may have time to make a larger skib.
Weaving in a small group, Sarah will be on hand to guide you through each process, and after two days you will have your very own tray to take away with you; the perfect size to use as a bread basket, or as a wall hanging.
WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR?
This course is suitable for all abilities; some experience weaving with willow previously (be it even once) is helpful. Techniques will be adjusted to suit the experience of each individual.
Participants must be 18 years old and over.
ACCESSIBILITY:
Willow weaving is physically active in all areas. It can particularly hard on the hands, so is unsuitable for those who suffer from arthritis or other conditions that affect the hands. Courses will involve working at many levels, including bending down to the floor, working on laps or standing, and working seated at tables. If you have any physical difficulties in any of these areas, we advise you to contact us before booking.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
Please bring a packed lunch. Please wear warm clothes you don't mind getting messy, and bring extra layers (we will be working in a large open space).
WHAT'S INCLUDED:
Materials and use of tools included. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day.
Cancellation Policy (summary): If cancelling within 14 days of booking, a refund can be issued. Cancellations after 14 days of booking: a refund can be given only if we are able to fill the space(s) (minus a £20 admin fee). Courses are non-transferable.
By purchasing a place(s) on our course you are agreeing to our full Terms and Conditions (link below), section 'Courses'.
